Friends used that forum format for a gardening forum. It worked well until the spammers hit. Their version was very easy for the addition of new members. One Friday they got over 300 new members, many with porn websites.
Once they required new memberships be approved, the place got under control again, but many had given up on it by then.

Controlling costs would be a good thing, I am sure. But a lot of guys gave a few bucks to Gridscape before it became
a commercial site.

Could you maybe try that? Does not have to be a formal thing, but maybe a referral email...
Also...I think you could start contacting the advertisers on Gridscape, to get the info out the site's value,
and I can help you design the email stuff to get their attention, etc. That is what I know like the ack of my hand.

I appreciate the opportunity to post and want to preserve it.
